National Play-Doh Day

Hello again everyone.

Its National Play-Doh day.  Did you know that Play-Doh modeling compound actually started out as wallpaper cleaner?  I didn’t.

But I remember having lots of fun with Play-Doh as a kid.  I would be mesmerized (sp?) for hours playing with it.  Mom loved that.  I hated when it dried out.  I think she did too.

I might go buy some this weekend.

  1. I can make this for you. I used to make it for the girls and when I taught! We would even add flavorings, like mint with the green and almond with the red.
It could be our Saturday night activity with some drinks!!
    1 cup water
    1 tablespoon vegetable oil
    1/2 cup salt
    1 tablespoon cream of tartar
    Food coloring
    1 cup flour

Combine water, oil, salt, cream of tartar, and food coloring in a saucepan and heat until warm.
Remove from heat and add flour.
Stir, then knead until smooth. The cream of tartar makes this dough last 6 months or longer, so resist the temptation to omit this ingredient if you don’t have it on hand.
Store this dough in an airtight container or a Ziploc freezer bag.
