Hello again everyone.
As you probably know by now (unless you are living under a rock), Alex Reyes, the Cardinal’s top pitching prospect, will not be pitching this year. He tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. He had Tommy John surgery. He won’t pitch for at least twelve months.
The sad thing is that he hurt himself before arriving at Spring Training. Never got on the field in Jupiter. Went straight for an MRI. Then to the operating room.
Now Cardinal Nation is oh so depressed about this development. I’m not happy about it either, but it is not the end of the world as some are predicting. The Cardinals are deep with starting pitching … and Alex probably would not have been a starter for more than half of this season. Alex’s injury may open a spot for someone else to shine. Someone who would not have been noticed if Alex as on the scene.
So, now is not the time to give up on the 2017 season. We’ve not played even one exhibition game yet. And other teams are going to suffer injuries that may have more of an effect on their season that Alex’s injury will have on ours.
Chin up Fredbird! We’re gonna be fine.
Thanks for reading and stay tuned.
